Are epoxy floors suitable for
garages and basements?
Yes. Epoxy flooring is an excellent choice for garages, basements, workshops, storage areas, and utility rooms. It creates a seamless, durable surface that resists moisture, oil, chemicals, stains, abrasion, and vehicle traffic while being easy to clean and maintain.
Will the coating look shiny or matte?
Both options are available. Most epoxy floors are installed with a satin to gloss finish, which enhances light reflection and is easy to clean. However, matte and low-sheen finishes can also be achieved depending on the system selected and the desired appearance.
Does applying epoxy damage the existing floor?
No. In fact, proper preparation improves the condition of the floor. The concrete surface is mechanically ground to remove contaminants and create a profile for adhesion, but this does not damage the structural integrity of the slab. Any cracks, holes, or surface defects are repaired before the epoxy system is installed.
Can epoxy floors be repaired if damaged?
Yes. Although epoxy floors are extremely durable, any damage caused by heavy impact, structural movement, or wear can usually be repaired. Most repairs can be completed without replacing the entire floor, helping to extend the life of the coating system.
How long does the process take?
Most residential epoxy flooring projects take between 2 and 5 working days, depending on the size of the area, the condition of the concrete, moisture levels, and the coating system being installed. This includes surface preparation, repairs, coating application, and curing time. Most floors can be walked on within 24 hours and returned to full service after the recommended curing period.
