Applying epoxy directly over damp or cracked concrete risks blistering, peeling and delamination once the coating is under normal use. The concrete slab at this Henderson property needed proper preparation before any flooring system could go down, since existing coatings, surface cracks and underlying moisture all had the potential to compromise a new epoxy finish if left unaddressed.
BlastOff prep ground all existing coatings from the concrete to expose clean, sound substrate for the new system to bond to. Every crack identified was repaired using cement epoxy repairs before the waterproofing stage began. Two coats of waterproofing membrane were then applied to seal the slab against moisture from below, and the system was finished with two coats of high-gloss epoxy laid down as the wearing surface once the membrane had been established.
The finished floor is sealed from beneath by the waterproofing membrane and protected from above by the high-gloss epoxy topcoat. The result is a glossy, continuous surface that is straightforward to clean and gives the homeowners a single durable system rather than separate, disconnected layers of treatment.
A homeowner in Henderson wanted a high-performance epoxy floor, but the concrete slab underneath it was not ready to take one. Epoxy laid directly over damp or cracked concrete is prone to blistering, peeling and delamination once the floor is in everyday use, so the existing coatings and any moisture sitting within the slab needed to be dealt with before a new system could go down.
BlastOff prep ground all existing coatings off the concrete to expose clean, sound substrate for the new build-up to bond to, then repaired every crack that was uncovered using cement epoxy repairs before any further layers were considered. With the surface sound, two coats of waterproofing membrane were applied to seal the slab against moisture rising from below, and the system was finished with two coats of high-gloss epoxy laid over the sealed base as the wearing surface. The result is a floor that is sealed from beneath and protected from above, giving the homeowners one integrated system rather than a coating sitting loosely on top of an unresolved substrate.
Anyone considering epoxy for a garage, lower-level room or utility space should treat the slab condition as the starting point of the conversation, not an afterthought once the epoxy colour has been chosen. Grinding back to substrate reveals whether there is cracking or trapped moisture that would otherwise show up as bubbling or lifting months down the track, and a waterproofing stage underneath the epoxy is worth discussing wherever moisture from below the slab is a genuine possibility.
This project shows how preparation, repair, waterproofing and high-performance epoxy floor coatings work together as a sequence, not as separate jobs, to produce a durable, easy-to-clean finish that will actually hold up over years of normal household use.
