Commercial Service

Commercial
Thermoplastic coatings with IBIX Industrial

Overview of the service

IBIX Thermoplastic coating, built around the PHC (PolyHotCote) flame-sprayed polymer powder range, is the gold standard for long-term anti-corrosion protection of structural steel, galvanised steel, and aluminium.

BlastOff Solutions provides commercial thermoplastic coating services for coastal structural steel, water and chemical tanks, balustrades and handrails, marine fittings, infrastructure assets, and exposed plant. The system applies with instant curing, no primer, no two-pack mixing, no solvent fumes, and rapid return to service, ideal for assets that cannot afford long shutdowns.

How we deliver IBIX
precision systems

Our IBIX process is focused on control, speed, and performance.

Project details and site constraints help us confirm the correct IBIX system and scope of work.

01
Steel and galvanised assets are assessed to confirm system selection
02
Surface preparation is carried out to NZS / AS 1627.4 (Sa 21⁄2) for mild steel, or AS 1627.9 sweep-blast for galvanised steel
03
Substrate cleanliness, profile, and chlorides verified before coating
04
Flame-applied PHC thermoplastic powder applied with instant curing
05
Zero VOC, zero solvent fumes, no oven required

Why Thermoplastic®

Traditional protective systems for steel; paint, epoxy, powder-coat, or galvanising alone, depend on multi-coat builds, cure windows, ovens, or sacrificial protection. They fail under impact, UV, or harsh chemical exposure.

IBIX thermoplastic eliminates these limitations by combining controlled abrasive preparation with instant-curing, fume-free flame-spray. The asset is protected immediately, structures return to service the same day, with no primer, no two-pack mixing, and no VOCs.

Performance Advantage

PHC® thermoplastic coatings are engineered for demanding commercial, marine, and industrial environments where steel and galvanised assets are exposed to corrosion, abrasion, UV, or chemical attack.
01
Instant cure — assets in service immediately after cooling
02
Excellent UV resistance — no significant colour loss after 2000 h (ASTM G53)
03
Extreme flexibility (>500% elongation at break)
04
Salt spray (ASTM B117): <10 mm adhesion loss after 1000 h on steel
05
Strong electrical insulation — 47.0 kV/mm (IEC 243)
06
Impact resistance — 2.7 J direct @ 23°C / 18 J indirect @ 0°C

Ideal Applications

Commercial and industrial steel and galvanised steel assets across New Zealand. Coastal infrastructure, water tanks, marine fittings, balustrades, wastewater plant, and architectural exposed steel requiring long service life without extended shutdowns.

01
Salt spray resistance (ASTM B117, >1000 h)
02
Adhesion testing (A1 level on metals)
03
Chemical resistance testing (acids, alkalis, solvents)
04
UV and weathering resistance (ASTM G53, 2000 h)
05
Impact and abrasion resistance

Tested & Proven

IBIX PHC® thermoplastic coatings are supported by independent testing and international performance benchmarks, including assessments aligned with ASTM B117 (salt spray), ASTM D2794 (impact), ASTM D4060 (abrasion), ASTM G53 (weathering), IEC 243 (dielectric), and ISO methodologies.

IBIX Thermoplastic® vs Traditional Steel Coatings

PHC thermoplastic offers clear advantages over conventional steel coating systems, particularly in marine, coastal, and time-critical environments.
