Commercial Service

Commercial
Sand blasting to structural steel and concrete

Overview of the service

Structural steel preparation is a critical step in protecting steel and ensuring coatings and fire protection systems perform as intended.

BlastOff Solutions provides commercial structural steel preparation for new builds, refurbishments, and remediation projects. We prepare steel surfaces so primers, protective coatings, and intumescent fire protection systems can be applied correctly and achieve their designed lifespan.

Our team works across live commercial and industrial sites, coordinating with other trades and following project specifications to keep programmes moving safely and efficiently.

Types of Abrasive
blasting methods used

01
Sandblasting
02
Soda blasting
03

How we prepare structural steel

Capabilities

Abrasive blasting to Sa 2.5 (Near-White Metal) and Sa 3 (White Metal) per AS 1627.4 on structural steel members, fabrications, and connections
Surface profiling to achieve specified anchor profiles (Rz 40–70 µm) for primer adhesion on protective coating and intumescent fire protection systems
Concrete substrate preparation including scabbling, needle-gunning, and abrasive blasting to CSP 3–6 for industrial coating and waterproofing applications
Remediation blasting on existing steelwork. Removing failed coatings, mill scale, corrosion, and contaminants prior to recertification or recoating
Programme-driven sequencing to keep blast preparation ahead of following trades on fast-track commercial and industrial sites

Equipment

Diesel-powered portable blast pots (up to 400 CFM) for high-output on-site production blasting
Wet abrasive and dustless blasting systems for enclosed or sensitive environments with containment requirements
Vacuum-recovery blast systems for confined spaces, live sites, and projects requiring strict waste management
Industrial vacuum and dust suppression units compliant with HSWA 2015 / HSW Regulations 2016
Full containment infrastructure — scaffolding shrouding, ground sheeting, and debris collection — for zero-contamination site operation
