The Challenge

The school’s structural steel is exposed to the weather throughout the year and is in view of students, staff and parents every day, so both performance and appearance mattered. The steel needed long-term corrosion protection, but the work also had to be carried out around an operating school, keeping the campus clean, safe and presentable while classes continued.

Our Approach

BlastOff abrasive blasted the structural steel to a clean, profiled surface in line with AS 1627 preparation standards, creating a suitable base for the protective coating system that followed. The coating system was matched to the steel’s year-round weather exposure. Because the campus remained operational throughout, the work was staged and contained around the school day, with each area left clean and safe before students, staff and parents returned the next morning.

Because the campus never closed, the work was staged and contained around the school day, with each area left clean and safe before students, staff and parents arrived again the next morning, a discipline that matters as much on an occupied school site as the coating specification itself.
