The Challenge

The boat’s existing coatings had reached the end of their useful life and were no longer protecting the hull effectively. Simply repainting over the tired finish would not have addressed the underlying condition of the substrate. The owner wanted a stripping method gentle enough to preserve the hull material while opening the way for a more durable coating than a conventional marine paint system could offer.

Our Approach

BlastOff used soda blasting to strip the old coatings and marine growth from the hull, choosing the method because it removes unwanted material effectively while being gentle on the underlying substrate. Once the hull was clean and prepared, IBIX Polyfusion was fused onto the surface using heat, forming a continuous coating rather than a series of painted layers. This fused application was selected for its resistance to abrasion and impact, both relevant to a hull operating in a marina setting.

The Outcome

The hull was returned to the water carrying a fused Polyfusion coating in place of the previous painted finish. The continuous nature of the coating gives the vessel a waterproof, impact-resistant surface suited to ongoing marine performance, providing the owner with a hull protection system built for the conditions it will operate in at Gulf Harbour Marina.
