The Challenge

The wet-area concrete and tile at Blue Waters is exposed to constant moisture, foot traffic and daily use. Conventional coating systems applied to surfaces like this tend to break down over time under that kind of ongoing exposure, so a more durable approach was needed for the finished surface across both the concrete and tile areas.

Our Approach

As a certified IBIX applicator, BlastOff prepared the concrete and tile surfaces before applying IBIX Polyfusion, a thermally fused polymer coating. Rather than sitting on top as a conventional paint film would, the coating was bonded directly into the substrate, building a textured, slip-resistant surface across the treated area in one system rather than separate waterproofing and anti-slip layers applied one after the other.

The Outcome

The finished surface at Blue Waters now provides waterproofing and slip resistance together, delivered through a single fused system rather than a membrane with a separate topping layer. The result is a wet-area surface built to handle constant moisture and foot traffic.

One Coating, Two Jobs: Waterproofing and Grip for Blue Waters' Wet-Area Concrete

Wet-area concrete and tile at a site like Blue Waters in Silverdale faces a tougher daily test than most surfaces on a commercial property. Constant moisture, foot traffic and regular use wear down conventional coating systems over time, and a painted film that looks fine when first applied can start lifting or losing grip once it’s exposed to that combination day after day.

Rather than layering a separate waterproofing membrane under a separate anti-slip topping, BlastOff applied IBIX Polyfusion across the concrete and tile areas as a certified IBIX applicator. The surfaces were prepared first, then the thermally fused polymer coating was bonded directly into the substrate rather than sitting on top of it as a conventional paint would, building a textured, slip-resistant finish in the same process that delivers the waterproofing. Fusing the coating into the substrate rather than over it is what gives this kind of system its durability in a wet environment, since there’s no separate film to delaminate under sustained moisture and traffic.

The result at Blue Waters is a single finished surface doing the work of two systems, protected against water ingress and providing genuine slip resistance without the build-up height or extra junction details a membrane-plus-topping approach would need.
