Concrete Remediation and Anti-Slip

The concrete pavers surrounding the pool at Miranda Park had become smooth and polished from years of use, creating a slip risk in an area that was wet for most of the day. Because the pavers sat right at the pool edge, Pro Landscapes needed a fix that improved grip reliably without disturbing the paver joints or leaving a patchy, inconsistent surface across an area used regularly by residents and visitors.

Rather than applying a separate anti-slip coating over the top, BlastOff sandblasted the pavers directly, cutting a uniform, textured finish into the concrete itself that provides grip underfoot when wet. The concrete remediation was controlled carefully across the whole pool surround so paver edges stayed intact, avoiding the uneven, patchwork look that inconsistent blasting can leave on a paved area like this.

The pavers kept their original appearance while gaining slip resistance that comes from the concrete’s own texture rather than a coating sitting on top of it, which means there is nothing to peel or delaminate the way an applied anti-slip product eventually can under constant wet-area use.

For pool operators, landscapers and body corporates managing similar paved surrounds, this project is a useful comparison point between two different approaches to slip resistance: texture the substrate itself, or apply a coating over it. Coatings can be faster to install but wear and need eventual recoating, while blasting-based texturing works with the existing material and tends to hold up for longer in a constantly wet, high-traffic environment.
